God ~ My Greatest And Closest Friend

There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus
No not one ~ no not one
None else could heal all our souls' diseases
No, not one ~ no, not one
Jesus knows all about our struggles
He will guide 'til the day is done
There's not a Friend like the lowly Jesus
No, not one ~ no, not one
There's not an hour that He is not near us
No, not one ~ no, not one
No night so dark, but His love can cheer us
No, not one ~ no, not one

No earthly friend can do all of that ~ no earthly friend is supposed to. Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a Friend that’s well known. You’ve no other such a friend or brother, tell it to Jesus alone.

3 Thoughts On The Matter:

Amen! So often we allow human relationships to take Jesus' place, and then are surprised when they fail!
This something I so want to teach my boys...don't ever make your relationship with Jesus dependant on other people...they are bound to hurt or disappoint you...Jesus never will

Cathryn,

I just commented on your post about The Greatest Love Letter you ever wrote and as I hit *publish*, it disappeared and when I tried again, the entire post was gone? :o(

What I basically said was that I agreed wholeheartedly!

We sang the hymn this week during our prayer & Bible study that you wrote in that post and as we sang it, I thought very similar thoughts!

I expect too much from humans; I discuss to much and rely too much on those who cannot help me.

The Lord wants me to rest in Him, talk to Him and rely on Him so that He can make me feel the joy and comfort of having HIS everlasting arms carrying me through all the days of my life!

Blessings to you!

Hi Cathryn,
I could have written these two comments, as well. I was very dependent on people when I first became a Christian, and I still sometimes tell people problems or irritations I should be taking directly to the Lord.

What has happened to the people I've relied on too much, is they've moved to another state or died. I remember praying for a mentor, a close friend I could study God's Word with. I don't currently have one in the flesh, but am realizing I haven't felt the need to lately. I need to be in the Word more than a few verses a day, though.
