Dear Blogging Friends Who Use Facebook

Please know that I was in no way casting any stones if you do use this mode of communication. Maybe it is where I've been in my journey and I just wasn't ready for it. I still have Facebook in the house via two of my daughters ~ but I know how to monitor what is going on.

I shall miss uploading pictures and talking to old friends and sharing little snippets of news with other home schoolers (it was an excellent way to get a hold of some folk that I couldn't ever catch at home by phone). These are things I will miss. And yet I won't miss the pesky suggestive ads in the margin or my daughters constantly untagging my pictures because they didn't want a cute little picture of them when they were a baby put out there in cyberspace for all the world to see ~ what is up with that :) And I won't miss some pretty bad stuff I saw within the pages of those who I thought I knew. I reckon at this time it was just too hard to see.

You know, had I known that you all had Facebook my experience would have been so much better. We could have been "friends." So, down the pike, if my perspective changes don't be surprised if you get a request to be my friend ~ but don't hold your breath. :) Bless you all.

P.S. Check out this article a college gal wrote about quitting Facebook and going back to the old fashioned traditional ways of communicating. It is pretty cute ~ even if you do like FB.

Glad to see you back at blogging too! It's no problem for us to think differently on some things, to be affected differently because of our life's journey, or simply to have different tastes. I chose not to take offense and no stones were cast that I saw, lol! I so much prefer face-to-face with people anyday, and my face in THE BOOK!!! Your blog is an encouragement to all of us! May you continue to allow yourself to be used of God wherever HE places you!
Blessings!

I am with you Cathryn! I won't use facebook because of that. When I started blogging I specifically looked for something with NO ADDS. On another note: I have AOL e-mail and the news pops up when I sign in to AOL....I am appauled!!! This junk is everywhere.

I agree with you. I have never had a facebook accnt, and I do not plan to. I had a private My Space account so that I could see my family that was on there and a Bebo page because all of the youth and a few adults in the church had one. I deleted them both. I deleted the Bebo page when I found a really nasty message that one of the youth left about me. It broke my heart. I deleted the My Space page because the LORD convicted me to. I have heard too many things about what parents in our church found on their teen's My Space and Facebook pages. For some reason people think that there are no consequences to their actions on the computer. I am glad you are back.

Hi Cathryn,

My daughter set up a Facebook acct. for me in Nov. I got addicted and the first time I logged in I spent nearly a whole day on it. I then decided that I couldn't let it take over my life. It is nice to find old friends and keep up with friends from church but I quickly saw that I could become entangled in it and spend less time with God and in Bible Study. I still check in every now and then, but I limit myself

One good thing that came from Facebook was that people found my blog through it.

I don't know how many invitations I have received from friends to join Facebook and be their friend. I guess I'm just too old fashioned but I have not joined yet. I asked a few people about it....how safe it was, etc......and most people said it was pretty safe. BUT they did say that there would be some possibly "suggestive" adds and banners that would come up but to just "ignore" them. I decided it would not be worth it to me to have to ignore things like when I can just use my email to keep in touch all I want other than reading the wonderful blogs of the Christian friends I have made in bloggy land. I have never once had to blush when I read ya'll blogs! :)

God bless you sister,
Marilyn
